Staying in Virginia for one more year

I found out recently that I'll be staying in Virginia for another year, and there are a few mixed feelings about that, but most of them are positive.  On the bright side, I don't have to worry about a move, I can keep playing field hockey, I enjoy my job, I'm close to home, and I have great friends who live just across the street.  The only negative aspect is that feeling of rejection you get when you're not picked for the team.  This feeling did, however, spur me to play really well in my field hockey game last Friday.  I was a complete wall on defense, and I ran a lot.  Part of that may have been that I was consistently defending against a girl who either just started playing in college or was about to start.  She was good, but not as fast as the men I normally play against, and her hits were typically on the ground (good for my face, and good for my stick).  A lot of the men on our team like to play the ball in the air.  I don't know what the attraction is...they lose complete control of who will receive the ball once it's above the ground, and the goalie is able to move his/her hands much faster than his/her feet anyway.  I know some of these people are coaches, but I disagree with a lot of their over-use of the flick and the regular lack of control in drives.

I'm about to go meet with a career counselor, probably to hear why I didn't get the job in Newport, RI, and also to discuss what will be available to me next summer.  I'm pretty excited to talk to him, but I don't think he'll tell me anything different from what I've heard before.  Go TAD.  They all say that, and it's easier said than done when your boss has actual work for you to do.  I have friends who have gone temporarily to ships all year long...I can't imagine why their billet even exists if they are able to do that.

Well, I better get going!  My meeting is in the mall, and I have a coupon for a free undies at Victoria's Secret!!  Hooray!
